4 arrested after reports of poaching in Sanilac County

Four people were arrested after reports of poaching in Marion Township.

The incident happened shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday on Schock Road near Russell Road, according to a statement from the Sanilac County Sheriff Department.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection air and marine division helicopter reported seeing people shooting from a vehicle on Schock Road.

Deputies responded to the area and stopped the suspected vehicle.

Three men and one woman between the ages of 23 and 44 were located in the vehicle as well as two rifles and one dead deer.

The men and woman — who were from northern Sanilac County and southern Huron County — were arrested and lodged in the Sanilac County jail.

One of the men, 31, was turned over to U.S. Border Patrol for immigration violations, according to the statement.

The incident remains under investigation by the Sanilac County Sheriff Department and Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
