Brockway Bar reborn as Roadhouse 19

The Brockway Bar has a new name and new owners.

Roadhouse 19, 6020 Emmett Road, Brockway Township, will open its doors in the next few weeks.

The eatery will serve American roadhouse-style food and drinks.

The 4,300-square-foot building was purchased by Jeff Seros, 49, of Yale, this past July. Seros also owns Yale Flowers and Gifts, Scoops Ice Cream Parlor and Seros Glass.

“I saw an opportunity in the building and I wanted to be able to offer people a place to eat in the area,” Seros said.

Seros said Brockway Township offers diners few choices, which usually means a road trip to Port Huron or Imlay City for a full-service menu.

“The past business was more of a drinking bar, but we will feature a complete menu with signature dishes,” he said. “The building is over 100 years old and the previous owners had it in their family for nearly 50 years.”

One dish locals will recognize is the Yale bologna sandwich.

He said the previous bar had a long-standing history in the community that residents are attached to and he wanted to preserve part of that history.

“We did complete renovations inside and outside,” he said. “But we still have the structural poles with peoples’ names carved in them.”

There was also a large mural painted on the wall of the old bar. Seros had his workers cut that section of wall out in order to preserve the painting. It now hangs on the new knotty pine walls of the restaurant.

He installed new windows, ordered new tables and booths and re-decorated. Two pool tables and 14 televisions are set to entertain guests as well.

Seros said he is hoping to incorporate produce from local farms within the next year.

The roadhouse is currently accepting applications for waitresses, bartenders and dishwashers. Applications can be dropped off at Yale Flower and Gifts, 6 S. Main St., Yale.
