Police are investigating an incident where a helicopter landed just outside Sandusky, damaged power lines, and flew away upon officials' arrival.

A sheriff deputy and an officer from the Sandusky Police Department responded to the 1000 block of West Sanilac Road shortly after 1 p.m. following a report of a helicopter landing in front of a manufacturing business and taking out power lines, according to a statement from the Sanilac County Sheriff Department.

The deputy and officer saw the helicopter on the ground with its rotor spinning before it quickly took off heading southeast, according to the statement.

The Moore Township Fire Department responded and awaited Thumb Electric power crews to arrive and repair the damaged power lines.

The incident remains under investigation.

It was not clear if the helicopter is being sought by officials.
